Classic Norton Bikes: Previous Soldier

SG– Once in a while we hear from Juris on progress along with his 1917 WW1 Massive 4 – often known as ‘Previous Soldier!’ Lately he has been engaged on the silencer and his texts and images observe on:

“We’ve made good progress on the exhaust system of the outdated soldier. Needed to order 3 metres of skinny wall pipe 32 mm in dia for the straight exhaust pipe from the UK as our native suppliers mentioned that they can’t import skinny wall tubes for concern of smashing them in transport. Have made tooling and pressed these silencer finish caps on our hydraulic press. Please see the images. They got here out moderately nicely. The excellent news is that I additionally want them for the 1927 mannequin 17C and for my 1927 french “Monet Goyon” 4rc4 — racer with  350 cc Villiers 2-stroke engine. This bike has enormous baloon tyres and I had just one possibility for replacements — to purchase clincher car tyres and I would like to chop extra grooves in them to make them appropriate for a motorbike. I used Trimagard black phosphating paint from Trimite ltd and put the elements in a range at 130 levels for 1/2 hour. thus the semi-matt end is weatherproof and won’t rust.”
